Unlike most museums where the hoods of the cars on display are closed tight, the folks at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, Michigan, have decided to let enthusiasts see up close the engines on the cars currently on display in their fantastic collection. All 33 vehicles will have their hoods raised, now through October 31. Seventeen more vehicles, including some rare race cars, muscle cars and Jeeps, will be hoodless as well. They include:
• 1928 Chrysler Model 72 Le Mans Race Car
• 1934 Chrysler Airflow
• 1946 Willys-Overland Jeep CJ-2A
• 1949 Dodge Half-Ton Pickup
• 1954 Dodge Power Wagon
• 1955 Chrysler 300
• 1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer D-500
• 1963 Chrysler Turbine
• 1966 Dodge Charger “Lawman”
The Walter P. Chrysler Museum exhibits more than 65 antique, custom and concept vehicles. The first floor traces the industry’s first 50 years from Chrysler’s perspective, featuring rare vehicles dating back to the early 1900s, including several historic marques. The second floor continues Chrysler’s story, beginning with the introduction of the first Hemi engine in 1951, and highlights decades of design, engineering and marketing successes. The lower level Boss Chrysler’s Garage houses dream machines of the 1950s-1970s, along with an array of Jeep vehicles and trucks.
