Word comes to us, very sadly, that sports car raconteur and all-around good guy Toly Arutunoff was terribly injured while en route to the Sports Car Club of America convention in Las Vegas. Full details haven’t emerged yet, but Toly, a glowing personality in the SCCA’s history, was apparently helping a stranded motorist during a snowstorm when another vehicle struck him.

His wife, Karen, said her on Facebook page that Toly lost his right leg, and that his left was shattered. His family was hoping that snowstorms would break so Toly could be airlifted from an Amarillo, Texas, trauma center to Oklahoma University Medical Center in his native Tulsa for orthopedic procedures. She asks for your prayers and thoughts. We thank Hemmings contributor Hal Crocker for this photo of his longtime racing pal.
