Could Jerry Magnuson’s Magnatude be on its way to sweeping all three Goodguys street rod awards this year?
By winning Street Rod of the Year at this past weekend’s 13th Goodguys Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, Magnuson has certainly set himself up for it. He previously won the Goodguys Street Rod d’Elegance in April at the Del Mar Nationals and has only to win the America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod award at the Goodguys West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton next month to take street rodding’s triple crown.
Magnuson had Chip Foose design Magnatude’s body, then trusted Marcel DeLay to build it. The car features a Magnacharged LS1 Chevrolet V-8, Tremec six-speed manual transmission, and Kugel front and rear independent suspensions on a custom Kugel chassis.
Magnatude beat out Brent Scheider’s 1937 Ford, Harold Schrader’s 1935 Ford, Scott Burton’s 1933 Ford and Jim Eckford’s 1933 Ford to win this year’s Street Rod of the Year.
