To commemorate Steve Berry’s and Apple Farmer Racing’s run up Pike’s Peak in a Volvo this weekend, let’s turn our gaze onto Gothenburg’s most well-known automaker for this week’s Hemmings Six Degrees of Automotive Separation Challenge. (And, hey, is that a standalone V up there? I should’ve caught that for the Automotive Alphabet.)
Now, we have considered Volvo twice before in our six degrees challenges, but not in a fox-and-hound-type challenge. Nor have we yet imposed the double-challenge rule of considering Volvo without considering the direct link between Volvo and Ford, so let’s do so this week. As far as the relationship between Volvo Cars and Volvo Trucks goes, we’ll leave that in play, with the stipulation that the companies are not one and the same, so you’ll have to use one of your six links to use Volvo Trucks in your answer.
For newcomers to the game, the fox-and-hound format works like this: The first person to leave a comment here gets to suggest another company to connect to Volvo in six degrees or less. Whoever successfully answers that challenge then gets to suggest another company to connect to Volvo, and so forth. As always, a connection consists of one company owning another, merging with another or sharing another’s parts.
