Back when everybody was living high on the hog and advertising departments had big promotional budgets, you’d see another car giveaway contest every week, it seemed. But ever since the Great Recession crashed down on us a couple years ago, there’s been a dearth of such giveaways. So is it a sign of recovery that we’re seeing Raybestos and Hollywood Hot Rods building a 1932 Ford roadster pickup for the former’s Talking Shop ad campaign?

To us, the best part about the contest – besides the fact that Raybestos chose Hollywood Hot Rods to build the giveaway pickup – is that the entire build process is being documented online via Flickr, YouTube and Facebook. Thus, we can see all the details of the RPU, from the Brookville body to the Speedway quickchange rear axle to the 2011 Mustang GT’s 5.0L Ti-VCT V-8 dressed up with a pair of 427 SOHC cam covers and Hilborn injection stacks.

While we’d like to keep this all to ourselves because we’ve already entered (and the fewer people who enter, the better our chances are of winning), you can enter the contest yourself at RaybestosGarage.com. The contest only runs through the end of the month.
