Team Penske’s Camaros drove off with another SCCA Trans-Am championship in 1969, but not without serious competition from the Shelby American Mustangs and, of course, the Bud Moore Mustangs of George Folmer and Parnelli Jones.
Ford won four of the first five races, but Penske drivers Mark Donohue and Ronnie Bucknum ultimately grabbed six victories, including a dramatic season-ending win at Riverside that brought Jones and Donohue’s rivalry to a fender-banging head.
One of the Bud Moore Mustangs from that historic season will cross the block at Russo and Steele’s Monterey auction next week. The car is serial number 112074 and is said to be one of two surviving Bud Moore cars out of the six built for 1969.
Russo and Steele has a complete history of the car along with additional photos on its site.
