Another one from the Ford media archives, depicting Hannu Mikkola and Arne Hertz in a Ford Escort RS1800 in the 1979 Rallye de Portugal Vinho do Porto. Mikkola went on to win this particular rally and made an excellent showing in that year’s WRC standings, coming in a very close second to Björn Waldegård (who came in a close second in the Portugal rally). Mikkola and Hertz’s car, POO 504R, was used just once in the 1979 season, but took the pair to three wins and two DNFs in 1978. Mikkola did end up winning the WRC championship in 1983.
