We’ve featured Art Evans in the Hemmings print and cyber-pages a bunch of times. He’s a documenter, a ranked historian, of the early road-racing scene in Southern California; the author of retrospectives on Torrey Pines, Pebble Beach and other early locales. He’s now looking for your help on a new project.
He hopes to eventually produce a book on the first race held at Palm Springs in April 1950, won by Bill Pollock in an MG on a road course near the airport. The photo comes from that event and shows an Allard with its hood removed, very prudent in the inland California heat. If you have stories or photos to share, contact Art via e-mail at agevans@yahoo.com, or call 323-325-3980.
