I’m in Texas for about a week, covering the WWG Houston Classic Weekend auction, Keels & Wheels Councours, and shooting about eight feature cars.

Yesterday, after leaving home in heavy snow, I arrived in 86 degree Houston, and made my way down to Seabrook, where the auction and concours are located.

We covered these events last in 2005, and George Mattar really didn’t communicate just how spectacular a location they have down here. If you’ve ever been to Greenwich, it’s comparable, except you can actually drive to the Lakewood Yacht Club, and it doesn’t rain. The lineup of cars is also breathtaking,  it’s taking twice as long to write them up as it should, there are just so many great ones.

Nevertheless, I managed to get 26 cars written up before dark, which sounds like a lot but leaves 64 to do tomorrow, while still leaving time to get to Austin (four hours away) for a shoot with a Pebble Beach class winning (Jaguar) SS at Jeff’s Restorations. If I have time, I’ll stop in at Driver Source along the way; (otherwise, I’ll visit them – and shoot an Aston DB2 there – when I’m back in Houston) . If I want to thank WWG’s Rod Egan, John Aguillard and the inimitable (I couldn’t nimit her, and believe me, I tried) Jo Snyder for accommodating me during their load-in.

If I’m still upright at the end of the day on Thursday, I’ll post some photos of Jeff’s shop – it’s a world class operation.
