When I was a kid, reading off-road magazines instead of doing my homework, I recall seeing ads in the back of those magazines for kits to rebody a 1973-1987 GM full-size truck into a Hummer replica. I thought it was a great idea – in Ohio (as well as in any northern clime), there were plenty of those trucks running around with rust to the door handles. Except I never saw one outside of those ads, so I never knew how they turned out in real life. In fact, I never did see one until I came across this 1984 GMC rebodied into a Hummer for sale on Hemmings.com. From the seller’s description:

this 2000 Hummer Replica built on a 1984 General Motors military chassis powered by a 6.2 liter diesel engine and rebuilt about 500 miles ago. Automatic, power steering, power brakes, seats six. It has rollover protection, metal doors, relatively new vinyl top and windows, removable CD player. Tires are about 70% plus. We just spent a couple of thousand on mechanicals, lights etc. Drives well. This is a third of the price of a real Hummer and just as much fun!
