If you watched the 2009 movie “Whip It” – and if you haven’t, you should – you might remember this red Karmann Ghia. The movie is about a Texas high school student, played by Ellen Page, who discovers roller derby, and, without her parents’ knowledge, creates an alter ego as “Babe Ruthless” on a team called the Hurl Scouts. The Karmann Ghia is driven not by Page, but by another member of the team, played by Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig, who takes Page in after the inevitable blowup with her beauty-pageant-obsessed mother. Don’t know if that’s supposed to be Wiig’s character behind the wheel — is it a dummy? That does look like her helmet on the roof, but there’s no mention of it being included in the auction. (The movie was the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore, who also takes a hilarious turn as another member of the Hurl Scouts, Smashley Simpson.)
So, Kristen Wiig (aka Maggie Mayhem) and Ellen Page sat in this car – how much more valuable does that make it? We’ll all find out when the car crosses the block at the Leake auction in Dallas, Texas, on November 19-21. From the seller’s description:
This Karmann Ghia was featured in the 2009 movie “Whip It” starring and directed by Drew Barrymore. It was used in numerous scenes and still adornes its faux Texas license plate. Finished in red with black interior and ready to be driven as a piece of movie memorabilia. The Karmann Ghia combined the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1, unique styling by the Italian Carrozzeria Ghia, and hand-built bodywork by German coach builder Karmann. Great Sunday cruiser that will turn heads as it goes down the road.

Say, speaking of Karmann Ghias used in movies, does anyone know the whereabouts of the car that Molly Ringwald drove in Pretty in Pink?
