They call the Opel GT the “baby Corvette” for obvious reasons, especially from the cowl forward. The less obvious reason is that many people see it as something less than a Corvette, in terms of stature. Sure, there’s no V-8 rumble coming out of the tailpipe, and there’s no Corvette heritage that goes along with it, but you still have a vehicle designed by Chuck Jordan, and you can get into one for much less than you could get into a comparable Corvette. Take, for instance, this 1970 Opel GT, which appears to be well preserved, and which has an asking price less than half of most 1970 Corvettes currently for sale on Hemmings.com. From the seller’s description:
Optional 1900cc 4-speed manual, 50K actual miles, mechanically sound, solid and rust-free, very straight body, great paint and chrome, nice original interior. Same owner for 20 years, runs quiet, smooth and drives like new. You will have a hard time finding one this nice anywhere!
