Most cars we highlight here on the Hemmings Find of the Day we have no personal experience with, but given the fact that this 1964 Studebaker Avanti R1 appeared as a Buyer’s Guide car and cover car in HCC #59, August 2009, and given the fact that we tend to choose the best and most original examples of cars for our Buyer’s Guides, we can readily vouch for it being an excellent example of the breed. From the seller’s description:
4,000 original miles! Red exterior, Black interior, automatic floor shift, AM/FM radio, power steering, power brakes, silent exhaust system and safety seat belts. A rare Sears Allstate/Studebaker promotional car equipped from the factory with Sears Allstate whitewall tires and battery. An unknown number of these identically built Avantis were assembled by Studebaker towards the end of 1963. Original hoses, belts, sparkplugs and tires with soap on spare still in place. A true survivor.
