There’s a lot of history hidden under the surface of this 1961 Chevrolet Suburban for sale on Hemmings.com. To start with, there’s the origins as either a government vehicle (forest service, perhaps?) or military vehicle, then there’s the fiberglass panels over the windows, the Cadillac V-8 and the two-tone paint. This is definitely one of those “if it could talk” vehicles. From the seller’s description:
1961 Chevrolet Apache Carryall Suburban, very unique government or military vehicle, The data plate states Model C1406, VIN 1C146K137361, Fed stock #2320-752-9812 US Property. This is an older restore, it has all the windows intact, rear glass was covered with fiberglass panel which I now took off. It has an great running 425 Caddy motor, holly 4bb carb, power brakes, auto trans, nice interior, and air conditioning. The body has some dings and small dents but no rusted out areas. Stored in New Mexico and Colorado. Has Colorado title, keys, etc. wouldn’t take much to be a driver again. I am getting more pictures and information. I recently aquired this vehicle so I am unable to provide much history.
