There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about rare or unusual vehicles, especially when it comes to mix-n-match examples like this 1929 Ford Model AA roadster pickup for sale on Hemmings.com. Of course, open-top AAs (and BBs) are not unheard-of, as illustrated in James Wagner’s Ford Trucks Since 1905, but the story the seller gives of this particular truck’s background appears to be legit and backed up with documentation. From the seller’s description:
This is one of three model AA Ford roadster trucks known to be left. This is a one of a kind truck that is fully documented and ready for restoration. In 1929, Ford shipped leftover parts from production to Mexico to produce vehicles for the market in Mexico. This AA truck was manufactured with parts from 1928 and 1929. The cab is a 1928 convertible and the chassis is 1929. The truck was assembled in 1929 and was sold and titled in 1930 in Mexico City. The truck went into use in Toluca, Mexico, where it remained until 1973. In 1973, it was located in a shed with no front or rear end. The original front and rear end could not be located, and a 1934 front and rear end were put in its place to move the truck. The truck had been in storage for over 40 years. In 1974, the engine and transmission was rebuilt and the truck was shipped to Michigan were it has remained in storage until now. This truck comes with a 1929 rolling chassis and many other spare parts that have been put together in preparation of restoration. THIS TRUCK IS THE REAL DEAL!!! Do not miss the opportunity to own a one of a kind truck that turns heads wherever it goes. The truck has 9,100 original kilometers and NO RUST. Can be driven anywhere at any time.
