In all that I’ve read and seen of La Carrera Panamericana, it’s all come from an Estados Unidos, English-language point of view, despite the fact that the race took place entirely within Mexico. So it’s not at all unreasonable to wonder how the Mexicans viewed the race. Fortunately, YouTube user peterbook2002 found and uploaded lengthy Spanish-language films of each of the 1950-1954 Carreras Panamericana that show many famous racers – Mickey Thompson, Phil Hill, Bill Vukovich – south of the border in a somewhat different light. Don’t you wish you paid more attention in your high-school Spanish classes now? Above and below, the two-parter for the 1954 Carrera Panamericana; if you have a spare afternoon, also check out the videos for the 1950 race (part 1, part 2), the 1951 race, the 1952 race and the 1953 race (part 1, part 2).
