When we came across the 1956 Cadillac Eldorado with quad headlamps last month, we were mighty surprised to see said headlamp arrangement on a car from the model year prior to the introduction of the production version Eldorado Brougham. Norwegian Roger Malmedal, however, recently surprised us again with what appears to be a factory-built quad-headlamp 1954 Cadillac Eldorado. Roger wrote:

In my hometown (Molde,Norway) a former boss did have this 1954 Cadillac Eldorado, who also did have quanted headlights. I did drive the car some, and also did some overhaul on this. That time it was unknown for me that some cars should have gotten headlight treatment as this, and i checked further, knowing most U.S. states legalized it first at approx. 1957/58.

This car have got the treatment originally, the fenders didn´t seem to been reworked, or extra welded. We checked the headlight rim together for other models, and didn´t find any brand which was similar. Aka 58 Chevy, etc.

After some years (early ’90s) the car was sold, and the new owner did let it stand outside in a major city, to be rotten away after some technical mishap. Many guys (also me) tried to buy the car loose, but the owner didnt wanna sell. In the late ’90s because of renewing of the neighborhood, new street, etc. the car was in bad shape with wrecked cab, and water inside in many years, it was crushed and the remains digged down. A sad loss.

From the pictures, none of it looks like an outright fake. Could it have been done for the export market? If so, perhaps that explains the ’56 as well?
