If you’ve been paying attention to NHRA drag racing, you’re probably aware of the resurgence of factory-built racers, currently being produced by both Ford and Dodge. Just like the old days, these are stripped-out body shells that are then built up with only those bits required to go fast, and safely. Performance fans can benefit beyond the excitement that comes from brand-versus-brand racing by taking advantage of the special parts that have been developed for these programs.
Ford Racing seems to be offering most of the parts that were created to make its FR500 Cobra Jet a reality, from suspension kits, battery boxes, block-off plates for mirrors and other deleted items and of course, the engine. The 2010 Cobra Jet 5.4-liter Base Engine package (M-6007-CJ10B) is based on the production Shelby GT500 engine and comes fully dressed with all the FR500CJ accessories and engine harness, but also includes an SFI-approved crankshaft damper, a precision-machined billet throttle body, A/C delete pulley, 80lb/hr fuel injectors, fuel-injector spacers and a twin-vortices Ford Racing supercharger. Ford Racing is also offering the Super Cobra Jet version of this engine package under part number M-6007-SCJ.
