Trust us, we’d be happier if we didn’t have to report this. Most everyone involved in the world of motorsports already knows that National Speed Sport News, the weekly newspaper founded by Chris Economaki in 1934, has ceased publication. The fruits of Chris’s storied life as a founder of American racing journalism are going under the hammer next Wednesday, April 13, at NSSN’s offices, beginning at 10 a.m.

There’s too much to list, but a (very) partial rundown of the memorabilia from Chris’s life includes a vast quantity of Indianapolis 500 collectibles, autographed driver suits, autographed photography, awards presented to Chris, collectible books and magazines, and on and on. For years, Chris saved every racing credential ever issued to him while he was covering a race. He later had them turned into wall decorations. At least a dozen such framed collages of credentials will be auction lots.

Another treasure offered for sale will be the original desk that Chris used when he first established NSSN in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The list is endless, and the auctioneer strongly suggests bidders arrive early. The location is NSSN‘s offices at 6509 Hudspeth Road in Harrisburg, North Carolina, near Charlotte Motor Speedway. For information, the auctioneer telephone number is 704-362-3288. Websites are www.auctionsbymarshall.com or www.nationalspeedsportnews.com.
