Your author spent Monday the 24th of May in the town of Nowthen, shooting a select group of Model A Fords for the 2012 calendar. (Yes, 2012 … the 2011 calendars go to print next week, and should be available in September.) We don’t get to Minnesota much, so it was a worthwhile investment of time. Five hours shooting 8 Model A Fords in what was judged to be record heat was an exhausting way to spend the day, but the guys were all excellent to deal with. Among the photo victims was this particular car, a 1930 Tudor, owned by the same man for 32 years, was methodically restored and which scored 500 out of a possible 500 points in the Model A Club Touring Class judging sheets. A gorgeous car, well worthy of inclusion in the calendar. I stopped shooting when the sun was finally out of the sky, around 9pm. Late-afternoon sun gives us the look we want for these calendars, and so this is when I shoot.

I arrived home to get this email from the owner:

I left shortly after you did and went alone toward home, 22 miles of back roads. Within a half mile  of being home, I got broad-sided by a deer that literally ran into the side of the car as I was driving 35 mph. Put a big dent in the passenger fender that shows up so nice in your photos.

We’re certain that it will be repaired shortly and will look like this again soon enough. Meantime, enjoy this shot.
