There’s a fairly well-known couple of photos that have made the rounds of the Internet in recent years purporting to show a game of auto polo that many people have pointed out are actually staged, leading them to suppose that auto polo wasn’t actually ever played. However, as these photos that we found in the City of Toronto’s photo archive seem to show, the game was indeed played in Toronto’s CNE Stadium in 1912. And it appears the stripped Model Ts they used spent more time turtle than on their wheels.

This one looks like it’s had some touch-ups in the cloud of smoke, though for what reason we can only guess. By the way, can any of you NASCAR historians tell us the significance of CNE Stadium?
