On the endless list of accolades that Bobby Unser has accumulated is one that’s almost never mentioned: He was named to Sports Illustrated‘s list of the top five athletes during the first 20 years of its publication, which began in 1954. That’s heady company, to say nothing of the three Indianapolis 500 wins, qualifying marks everywhere, a hall of fame career in deadly sprint cars and utter dominance of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb for a generation.

At 76, Unser’s got plenty to discuss. You can share some of it next weekend when the Indy icon, part of New Mexico’s great racing family, pays a two-day visit to the Saratoga Automobile Museum in New York through its ongoing Living Legends Series. A cocktail party with buffet dinner is set for Friday, October 15, from 6 to 9 p.m., with tickets at $100 per person. On Saturday, the museum hosts “An Evening with Bobby Unser,” hosted by Greg Rickes and Steve Potter, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for museum members, $35 for non-members and $10 per autograph. Seating for both events is limited. Guests may purchase tickets online at www.saratogaautomuseum.org or at the Museum during normal business hours. Call 518-587-1935.
