After a hectic morning in Seabrook getting my auction cars wrapped up at WWG, I headed up to Taylor, near Austin, where Jeff Snyder of Jeff’s Resurrections has been helping me line up feature cars to shoot. Thrillingly, my Jaguar SS comparo is going to come together; he already had a ‘39 SS two-and-a-half liter Drophead was already at the shop, and a ‘35 SS90 is coming in the morning.
We took the SS out briefly to try to get a jump on detail photography, but it was so windy I was worried about a door being ripped open, or my tripod blowing over onto it–this is a Pebble Beach class winner, and it looks it. So we bagged that for the day and instead I shot his shop.
It’s a beehive of activity; they’re preparing several cars for either the auction, the Keels & Wheels concours, or Hemmings. Among the auction cars is the renowned Austin-Healey 100-6, “Goldie,” a former Earl’s Court show car, and so called for its extensive gold plating. Extensive as in, everything that isn’t sheetmetal. You can actually see the car come together in just a few hours. I even made my contribution, applying some foam backing to the transmission tunnel. I’m immortal!
Tomorrow, after the SS comparo in the morning, there’s a ‘38 Buick convertible, ‘54 Vette, and a number of other cars to do. There are sonme mighty fine rides down here.
