To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, we had to look no farther than this 1970 Chrysler New Yorker four-door hardtop for sale on Hemmings.com to find a grandpa-fresh example of a car that roamed the highways on the very first Earth Day. It’s big, plush, dented up, equipped with a 350hp 440-cu.in. V-8, and (hopefully) priced just out of reach of anybody looking to buy the boat just for its engine, but also priced just low enough to inspire ideas of a flight to Washington state, then a meandering cross-country road trip back, swilling that great gift from Mother Nature while taking in her beauty. From the seller’s description:
Family car up for sale- lovingly named ‘The Alligator’ (Gator) for the alligator skin-like vinyl top and greenish color. Last used in-town college car. Still runs great! According to the door, it’s a 1969; according to insurance card from grandparents, it’s a 1970. Either way, it is a lovely land yacht with a drool-worthy engine.
