High-end watch (I’m sorry, “timepieces”) companies like to advertise to car guys, especially those car guys interested in high-end cars. There’s even quite a bit of crossover with timepieces branded to reflect a customer’s high-end automotive preference. Other than the mechanical aspect, I don’t get it. But if I had $25,000 to splurge on a watch, I’d rather do so on something like this 1916 Tiffany pocket watch originally presented to J.V. Machesky by Hudson in appreciation for Machesky’s record-setting twice-across-American run. From the seller’s description:
OWN a PIECE of HISTORY with this RARE, One of a Kind, 1916 18k Tiffany Pocket Watch Presented to J.V. Machesky by The Hudson Motor Car Co in appreciation of his services in establishing The Twice Across America Record, 5 days 3 1/2 hrs, 5 days 17 1/2 hrs, 7 Pass Super Six. Race began Sept. 13, 1916. Watch is completely engraved with all details. Manufactured by Agazzi of Switzerland, 17 jewels, 6 adjustments. 18k Case is Mint to Near Mint condition. Dial grading superb. Original Box and pouch. J.V. Machesky also holds the patent for the tail light currently used today. Mr. Machesky worked for The Hudson Motor Car Co as the Supervisor of Experimental Engineering and was one the 48 Engineers who Designed The New Hudsons 37 and 54 as noted in The Hudson Triangle. He is also known for driving in the Gliden Tour.
