A few interesting facts about Neil Young’s Lincvolt, some of which were stolen from Lincvolt.com:

* Lincvolt, rocker Neil Young’s 1959 Lincoln Continental Convertible weighing 6,200 pounds, has been converted to an electric series hybrid, and is touted as being cleaner than the cleanest hybrid.

* Lincvolt’s micro-turbine generator gives the driver the freedom to choose the fuel you use to charge the battery bank. You decide how green you want to be. Sources include 100 percent biodiesel or petro-diesel in the turbine generator to charge, plugging into the electrical grid, or any combination of the above.

* Lincvolt, with a 50-mile all-electric commuting range and a 400-mile extended range, proves that a plug-in Electro-Turbine Series-Hybrid and “Green Charging” can deliver the driving spirit of a full-size highway cruiser, while achieving lower emissions than the best hybrid in either long range or commuter range.

* Neil Young loves his car so much that he wrote an album about it, called Fork in the Road, in 2009.

* Lincvolt has been pinpointed by Belmont-San Carlos Fire Marshal Jim Palisi as the starting point for the three-alarm fire that consumed a piece of a warehouse containing decades of Young’s memorabilia on October 9, 2010. The San Mateo Times is reporting $850,000 in damage, not including the building (another quarter-million) or the car itself.

* In a statement, Young reported that the cause of the blaze appears “to be an operator error that occurred in an untested part of the charging system.”

* The fire happened just after Young returned from delivering a green-themed keynote speech to the collective hot-rod-and-custom-crazy masses at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas.

* It may not, in fact, be better to burn out than it is to rust – especially if it causes monetary damage into the seven figures.
