Man, I hardly get a smile or a mint on my pillow when I check into a hotel nowadays, let alone a ride to and from said hotel in a coachbuilt Rolls-Royce, but that’s exactly what visitors to the Hotel Schweizerhof in Zürich Interlaken in the 1950s got – a ride in this 1931 Rolls-Royce estate wagon bodied by Beutler. Fortunately, nobody over the years saw fit to return it to its prior sedanca configuration. From the seller’s description:
1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Barker Estate Wagon (6JS), RHD; One of a kind, Used in the 50s to transport guests to and from the Hotel Schweizerhof in Interlaken, Switzerland, seats up to 12 comfortably, unrestored, good running, 21′-6″ OA length, 8′ OA Height
This car was at the Paris Auto Show in 1931 as a Sedanca by Barker. Sometime after WW2, the well-known Swiss coachbuilding firm, Carrusserie Gebruder Beutler & Co of Thun, Switzerland re-bodied it to its current state for The Hotel Schweizerhof.
This car was in our family for over 25 years and was a crowd favorite at many concours.
