While the one-and-only 1966 Wolverine was indeed built for Jerry Hansen, it appears as though Hansen didn’t have much success with it, prompting him to sell it off and move to a McLaren for the 1967 season. Fortunately, the Wolverine didn’t fall by the wayside as many old, unsuccessful race cars have over the years, and has since been restored and apparently kept in racing trim. Its distinctiveness and thoroughly documented racing history should make up for its lack of any noteworthy racing success. From the seller’s description:
Jerry Hansen’s Wolverine which was built by Lee Dykstra in 1965 / 1966 and is the only one in the world, it was meaningful to build 3 cars but were restricted to this one.
Wolverine attended the first Can-Am Event on September 11, 1966, at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, St. Jovite (Can be seen on youtube) and was used in many races in USRRC and SCCA A/SR and 500 miles Road America op to 1972, where it was last raced and owned by Richard Bennett. He kept the car in the AZ desert until 2005 where Frank Tamburo is starting the restoration. It has a known ownership group up to today; many of its early drivers I have contact with; also Jerry Hansen, the designers George Anderson and builder Lee Dykstra have sent me much info and some fine old pictures from back then.
