One Car

The upcoming Pagani Huayra ultracar has a lot of people saying this is The One, the single car they would own above all others, if they could have any one car. Their Lottery Car, as one friend put it. I don’t blame them; it’s as striking a vehicle as we have ever conceived and I wouldn’t kick it out of the garage for leaking oil.

More, there was a time in my life it might have occupied that plinth in my own pantheon, but that was before I drove a 50/60hp Underslung. Driving a big horsepower early car is addictive like nothing else, and I wanted more, more, more.

My One Car, then, is the ultimate expression of early power, taken to a ludicrous extreme. I don’t care. I would drive it every day, and sleep next to it every night. I want the Beast of Turin.
