I’ve received word from Tim Dye that, after an amazingly short gestation, the Pontiac, Illinois, city council has given final approval for a museum celebrating the beloved GM brand. Tim will be providing further details soon, but he’s been approved by the city as the manager for the project, and funding is in place. It’s located downtown on North Mill Street, on the town square, a few blocks off historic Route 66, and they’re aiming for a July 21 opening.
I’ve seen Tim’s informal museum at his home in Oklahoma, and his collection alone will be ample to get the museum off the ground, but I suspect there will be no shortage of Pontiac fans willing to loan or donate enough to make this a world-class museum. We’ll post full details when we have them; for now, direct further questions to Tim, but don’t be surprised if he’s a little busy right now.
