Around 1995, an enthusiastic grandfather built a large-scale model of the Mercedes Benz SSK for his grandchildren. His aim was not to build a precise reproduction of the SSK, but, instead, a personalized toy based on the SSK. The model does not have the construction finish of a high-tech model, but it has enormous appeal. It was primed for an electric motor to move it, however a motor was never installed. The model can only be pushed or pulled. Nevertheless, the SSK was exhibited a few times. Of particular interest is the compressor engine, which becomes visible once the cowling is opened. Hard to believe, but true, this engine is made of wood! The headlights work, and the instruments on the dash were rescued from junk cars. Braking acts on the rear wheels, by means of a foot pedal and a handbrake. The straight body panels are aluminum; rounded or curved parts are GRP.
