Mystery junkyard of the past

Written by webmin

While going through some old boxes looking for the photos from yesterday’s post of vintage HMN ads, I came across this grouping of photos of an old junkyard. I couldn’t find mention of it anywhere in the August 1978 issue that yesterday’s photos came from, thus I wasn’t able to find any information on exactly where this collection lay or what was slated to happen to it. My guess is that it’s somewhere in the Midwest or maybe down around Texas/Oklahoma. Judging from the neat rows, the lack of pick-your-part detritus, and the trimmed vegetation underneath and around the cars, I’m also going to guess that these vehicles were hauled to this spot for some sort of liquidation auction. I’ll keep looking through old issues of HMN to see if I can get to the bottom of this matter, but in the meantime, anybody recognize the setting?
