Mercy sakes, he’s still alive

Written by webmin

To me, one of the greatest things about journalism is getting to experience things you could never make up even if you tried. Here’s an example that just veered through the orbit of our own world. Remember how back in the 1970s, you could order a factory-installed CB radio on everything from a Continental Mark IV to a Corvette? C.W. McCall, the DJ turned one-hit country wonder, is why. Last weekend, the Denver Post claimed McCall was dead. Only he isn’t.

By way of the all-things-Denver blog Westword and the Poynter Institute, we learn that the Post published a torturously worded correction about the “status” of McCall (age 81, true name William Dale Fries Jr.), the voice of “Convoy” and Moses of the CB phenomenon, clarifying that his heart and lungs still got the hammer down and he parks it in Ouray, Colorado, nowadays. 10-4 on that, good buddies.
