Exactly where the above photo was taken we’re not 100 percent sure. According to Robert Woolmington, who provided the photo from the Rueben Greene collection, it’s been suggested that the location was either somewhere west of Shaftsbury, Vermont, or possibly over in Saratoga Springs, New York. We tend to agree with the former suggestion, specifically that the photo was taken at the State Line Speedway, located literally on the Vermont-New York state line (right about here), a location closer to Greene’s hometown of North Bennington, Vermont. Adding evidence to our theory, the track closed in 1958, and we see no post-1957 cars in the photo. Do you?

UPDATE (5.April 2011): Thanks to Sully and reader Don Smith, we’re now certain that this photo was actually taken at the Catskill Game Farm, which was a bit downstate of the State Line Speedway.
