Legend and Champions Weekend is here already, with the three-day event kicking off this Friday with AMA’s Hall of Fame Banquet. This year’s inductees include Eyvind Boyesen, the Norwegian NASA engineer who pioneered reed induction for two-stroke motorcycles and founded Boyesen Engineering. Also Larry Coleman, a racer who won many sidecar races and championships in the late Seventies and recently has held numerous sidecar land speed records, including one at 174 MPH, along with six other inductees. Saturday activities feature the AMA Racing Championship Banquet, where winners in all AMA classes in 2010 will receive their Number One plates, to be displayed on their bikes for next season, and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Concours d’Elegance, which will feature a large collection of classic and vintage bikes as well as the recently crowned land speed record holder Top 1 Oil Ack Attack. The Ack Attack, owned by Mike Akatiff and piloted by Rocky Robinson, recently topped 376 MPH on the Bonneville Salt Flats to set the new standard for motorcycle-powered vehicles. On Sunday, organized rides to Hoover Dam and the new completed bridge over it, also the Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon, round out the weekend. Further details on the event are available at the AMA website.
