So these PR people from Warner Brothers were pretty insistent about sharing this music video from My Chemical Romance’s latest album with us because it has a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am in it. I can’t stand the band, the song, or the video, but I figure Mal Fuller can’t stand it either, and I find it perversely fun to needle him. From the band’s release:

The band’s frontman, Gerard Way, is a Trans Am obsessive and felt that featuring the car in their video would perfectly encapsulate the song.

“Trans Ams are special to me because I was fascinated with them as a boy,” says Way. “They were the first cars I actually thought were cool. The Trans Am is a muscle car that has always symbolized freedom to me, and I was definitely a little bit metal-head. Plus, it has a T-Top for easy rocket-launching ability, which we definitely needed for the video.”

Whatever. Gorillaz already did the whole Mad-Max-inspired-chase-scene-with-muscle-cars music video earlier this year. And the Puretones did it four years ago.
