Vanna Bonta

Vanna Bonta is an author best known for writing Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel (Meridian House 1996) which is a story about parallel dimensions with a girl who has amnesia and no navel. Vanna has very generously donated some great antique toys to our toy museum in DFW. At DFW Elite Toy Museum we gladly accept donations in different forms so when we heard she wanted to donate some antique toys and collectibles we were excited to add them to our collection and put them on display. Even though most of the toys at our museum are automobile related we love antique toys of all kinds including stuffed toys and dolls.

Vanna has made a name for herself doing more than just being a novelist. She is also a poet who has won some awards for some of her different collections of poetry. As an actress she made a cameo appearance as Zed’s queen, the main hero’s young mother, in the movie The Beastmaster. However she may be better known as the inventor of the 2suit. The 2suit is designed to enable sexual intercourse in weightless environments, like outer space. Vanna and her invention were featured on The History Channel’s 4th episode of The Universe Season 3 “Sex in Space.” She discussed how the suit could one day be used to help colonize on other planets and she was filmed testing the suit in a weightless environment.

Vanna’s donation of antique toys and dolls

When we heard Vanna Bonta was making a donation to our toy museum in Fort Worth we got very excited. We’re always looking to add to our collection and stuffed animals and dolls coming from all over the world will greatly diversify our entire collection. She donated a total of 16 separate pieces and couldn’t wait to get these rare collectibles on display. The set of Steiff Toys, Mungo the Monkey and Flossy Fish with Baby Flossy, come to us all the way from Germany and any collector knows that Steiff Toys are always a solid addition to any collection considering these particular toys date back to about 1961.

She also donated a total of six different Lenci dolls to our toy museum. Lenci dolls come all the way from Italy and are well known in the antique toy circles. One of the company’s toy factories was bombed in one of the world wars making some of their dolls very rare and exclusive. The Lenci Dolls that were added:

  • Dutch Girl
  • Italian Girl
  • George & Martha Washington
  • Nurse
  • Girl in Green Dress

We also received two dolls from Bangkok, Thailand that date back to 1965. The two dolls, a brunette in a red dress and a redhead in a cloche hat and pink dress, are colorful additions to our growing number of antique toys. We also received a bunny family of three, a giraffe and rabbit that are on display for toy lovers to see and enjoy.

DFW Elite Toy Museum is always growing

  1. Is the collection of Vanna Bonta’s childhood toys open to the public? that’s something i would love to see. Bonta is one of my favorite poets and authors, has been an inspiration since reading her novel in college. Just seeing toys she grew up with would make it so real. Great research material. And those aren’t any old toys, some valuable pieces she played with (Steiff, Lenci…) What are your hours?

  2. When can I come see the exhibit of Vanna Bonta toys? Is it open to the public and what are the hours and days please?

  3. I would like to take a photograph of Vanna Bonta’s childhood typewriter. Are photos allowed?
