Prius, schmius. There are plenty of other ways to save on gas, and they don’t all require stepping out of a collector car. Take, for instance, this 1955 Willys Custom for sale on Hemmings.com. Looking like a 7/8-scale conglomeration of half a dozen different mid-1950s favorites, it has a certain charm all its own and is sure to get better mileage than many of its contemporaries. From the seller’s description:
1955 Willys Custom Deluxe 4-dr sedan. The last and final year of the Willys Aero cars. Try to find one of these. The Custom Deluxe was the 4-dr version of the sporty Bermuda hardtop. Powered by a 224 ci/115 hp six-cylinder engine, with a Hydra-Matic automatic four-speed transmission. New correct wide whitewall tires. This is a super-clean, low-mile example that spent many years at Crawford Auto Aviation Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.
