nice Chevy street rod to greet us in Dickson, Tennessee

After a bit of respite overnight with thunderstorms and lightning, Tuesday’s second day of the Hemmings Challenge was once again very hot and humid. Weather was a major factor in several breakdowns amongst the rally racers today, however, as of late this evening, all three breakdowns that occurred today had been fixed before midnight and all three race teams should be back at the starting line tomorrow.

The Roxy Theater in Dickson was our lunch host for day two.

Today’s host city for the lunch stop was Dickson, Tennessee, at the Roxy movie theater. Quite a few classic and custom cars owned by Dickson-area locals were lined up next to the rally racers many of these will be featured in future blog postings. The Hemmings Speedster performed well today, garnering its third ace of the competition. Final score for the day was 44 seconds off perfect however, with the majority of that accumulated on just two of the seven legs, a 16-second miss and a 17-second snafu on the last leg of the day. Still, the Speedster is among the top three in the Sportsman’s Class and mid-pack in the roster of 54 entrants.

This Chevelle was one of about 50 cars that greeted us at the lunch site.

Tomorrow’s lunch checkpoint is Bardstown, Kentucky, with a finish tomorrow afternoon at the National Corvette Museum and dinner on the grounds of the museum.

A few of the cars in the car show would have fit right in with the rally racers.
